Summer in South Florida brings long beach days, youth sports, outdoor activities — and the inevitable bumps, cuts, fevers, and unexpected illnesses that come with them. When something goes wrong, the first question is always the same: urgent care or emergency room?

At Medi-Station Urgent Care in Miami Shores, we’ve been treating patients since 2009 with no appointment needed, on-site X-ray and ultrasound, and extended weekend hours. Here’s our honest guide to help you make the right call — quickly.

Go to the ER for True Emergencies

The emergency room is designed for life-threatening conditions where immediate hospital intervention is required. Head to the ER (or call 911) for:

  • Chest pain or pressure, especially with shortness of breath
  • Signs of stroke — sudden facial drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty
  • Severe allergic reaction or anaphylaxis
  • Major trauma — car accident, significant fall, suspected internal bleeding
  • Uncontrolled severe bleeding
  • Loss of consciousness or seizure
  • Difficulty breathing at rest
  • High fever in an infant under 3 months

The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) notes that over-utilization of the ER for non-emergency conditions contributes significantly to wait times and increases costs for everyone.

Come to Medi-Station for Everything Else

Urgent care is designed to bridge the gap between your primary care doctor (who may not have same-day availability) and the ER (where a 3–5 hour wait for a sprained ankle is unfortunately typical).

Medi-Station handles all of the following:

🤒 Illness and Infections

  • Fever (in patients over 3 months)
  • Strep throat, ear infections, sinus infections
  • Urinary tract infections (UTI)
  • COVID-19 and flu testing and treatment
  • Pink eye (conjunctivitis)
  • Skin rashes and minor infections

🦴 Injuries and Orthopedic Issues

  • Sprains and strains — ankle, wrist, knee
  • Minor fractures — we have on-site X-ray for same-day imaging
  • Lacerations requiring stitches or staples
  • Sports injuries and contusions

👶 Pediatric Care

  • We see all ages including children — no separate pediatric practice needed
  • Ear infections, croup, RSV, febrile illness
  • Sports physicals and school physicals
  • Pediatric injuries

🏥 On-Site Diagnostic Services

  • X-ray — same visit, no referral needed
  • Ultrasound — available on-site (a significant differentiator vs. many urgent care clinics)
  • Lab testing — urinalysis, rapid strep, flu, COVID-19, bloodwork

Why Medi-Station vs. Other Urgent Care Options in Miami Shores?

Open 7 Days a Week Few things are more stressful than getting sick on a Saturday and having nowhere to go. Medi-Station is open:

  • Monday–Friday: 9am–8pm
  • Saturday–Sunday: 10am–5pm

Doctors open on Sunday in Miami Shores? Yes — Medi-Station has you covered.

No Appointment Needed Walk in at any time during our hours. Same-day access without scheduling stress.

Established Since 2009 Medi-Station has served the Miami Shores, North Miami, and surrounding communities for over 15 years — not a pop-up franchise, but a real neighborhood urgent care with experienced providers.

Fast Orthopedic Care Without the ER Sports injuries, sprains, and potential fractures get X-ray imaging and a clinical assessment in one visit — without the hours-long ER process. According to the CDC’s National Health Statistics, urgent care centers handle more than 89 million visits annually in the U.S., diverting care that doesn’t require ER resources.
