Urgent Care With X-Ray and Ultrasound in Miami Shores: Same-Day Imaging Without the ER Wait

You twisted an ankle at the park. Your child fell off a scooter and won’t stop holding their wrist. A cough has lingered for two weeks and you’re starting to worry. In each case, the question is the same: do I need an image to know what’s wrong, and do I have to spend hours in an emergency room to get one?

For many common problems, the answer is no. At Medi-Station Urgent Care in Miami Shores, on-site X-ray and ultrasound let our team evaluate you, image the problem and start a treatment plan in a single walk-in visit.

Why On-Site Imaging Matters

Not every urgent care has imaging. Without it, a clinic may examine you and then send you somewhere else for an X-ray, which means another wait, another bill and another day of not knowing. When imaging is in the same building:

  • You get answers faster, often during the same visit
  • Treatment starts sooner, whether that’s a splint, medication or a referral
  • You avoid unnecessary ER visits for problems urgent care can handle
  • Follow-up is simpler because your provider already has your images

When an X-Ray Can Help

X-rays use a small, controlled amount of radiation to create images of bones and some soft tissues. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration explains that the benefit of a medically appropriate X-ray generally outweighs the small radiation risk. At urgent care, X-rays are commonly used for:

  • Suspected fractures of the wrist, hand, finger, ankle, foot or toe
  • Sprains that may be hiding a small break
  • Sports injuries from fall football, soccer and basketball seasons
  • Lingering cough or chest symptoms when pneumonia is a concern
  • Swallowed objects in children, in certain situations

Our orthopedic urgent care team can read your X-ray, immobilize the injury and guide you on next steps the same day.

When an Ultrasound Can Help

Ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation, to create real-time images of soft tissues, organs and blood flow. According to the FDA’s overview of ultrasound imaging, it’s widely used because it’s non-invasive and doesn’t involve ionizing radiation. In an urgent care setting, ultrasound may help evaluate:

  • Soft tissue lumps, swelling or possible abscesses
  • Certain abdominal or pelvic complaints, depending on symptoms
  • Muscle and tendon injuries that don’t show up on X-ray
  • Fluid collections around joints

Whether an ultrasound is the right test depends on your symptoms and exam. Our providers will explain why a test is or isn’t recommended.

What to Expect at Your Visit

Here’s how a typical imaging visit works at Medi-Station:

  1. Walk in. No appointment is needed. Bring your ID, insurance card and a list of medications.
  2. Exam first. A provider examines you and decides whether imaging is needed. Not every injury needs an X-ray.
  3. Imaging on site. If ordered, your X-ray or ultrasound is done in our diagnostic services area.
  4. Results and a plan. Your provider reviews the images with you and builds a treatment plan, which may include splinting, medication, home care or a referral to a specialist.
  5. Follow-up guidance. You’ll leave knowing what to watch for and when to come back.

Imaging for Kids

Children heal quickly, but their growing bones also behave differently than adult bones. Some childhood fractures, especially near growth plates, are easy to miss without an X-ray. Our pediatric urgent care team uses imaging thoughtfully, ordering it when it will change the plan and keeping radiation exposure as low as possible.

When to Go Straight to the ER

Urgent care with imaging handles a lot, but some situations need an emergency department right away. Call 911 or go to the nearest ER for:

  • A bone visibly pushing through the skin or a severely deformed limb
  • Head injury with loss of consciousness, confusion or repeated vomiting
  • Chest pain, severe shortness of breath or signs of stroke
  • Severe abdominal pain with fever or rigidity
  • Heavy bleeding that won’t stop with pressure

If you’re not sure, call us. Our team will help you decide.
